The City of Carmel is located just North of Indianapolis between highways US-31 and IN-431. Considered as part of the Metropolitan Indianapolis area, Carmel is an affluent community and a popular destination for professionals moving into the State. Carmel’s location makes it an easy commute to downtown Indy. The City of Carmel is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation with a current population nearing 80,000. Carmel residents are well educated with 50 percent having attended some college, and an average income of $92,000, which is one of the highest in the nation. Old downtown Carmel has been transformed into the new Carmel Arts District, and a new downtown is being created at City Center and will include a world-class Performing Arts Center. At the same time, government controls are keeping this transformation true to the original charm through traditional architecture. You can learn more about the City Center expansion here. The City continues to attract new business helping to keep local property taxes low. Much of which is located in the Carmel business corridor along US-31, just North of I-465. One of the latest additions is the Clarian North Hospital, and the Clay Terrace Mall, featured on our Shopping page. This Community is very family focused and a lot of attention is paid to quality schools. Though the school system ranks near the top of the list in the state, the tax rate remains very low compared to other cities. An entire page of this website has been dedicated to the local schools and educational facilities. Click on the Schools link to go directly there. Carmel also has some great local parks and recreational facilities. Some are more geared toward kids, while others are fun for the entire family. Visit our Parks page to see what Carmel has to offer.
